Oct 30, 2012

Mr Kameel Premhid went through seven individual
interviews and one final committee interview in order
to be awarded the KZN Rhodes Scholarship.

Final year Law student Mr Kameel Premhid is this year’s recipient of the KZN Rhodes Scholarship which is one of the Rhodes Scholarships awarded by the Rhodes Trust and entitles the recipient to pursue his postgraduate studies at England’s Oxford University.

Premhid’s other accomplishments also include being part of the UKZN’s first ever debate team scheduled to compete at the PAN Universities Debating Championships in Berlin Germany in 2013. He is also the proud recipient of the Abe Bailey Travel Bursary at the 2012 Scholarships Awards Ceremony which will see him to travel the United Kingdom for three weeks visiting various British Universities.

Premhid who diverted to a career in law after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree said that he is grateful to be afforded these enriching academic opportunities.

‘I am thankful to the respective Committees for granting me these opportunities and to my parents, friends and lecturers who have all in some way contributed to these achievements,’ he said.

Although 2013 will be a hectic and rewarding year for Premhid this will no way hamper his drive and ambition to realise his dreams to join the Johannesburg Bar and practice as an Advocate after completing his studies.

‘I am hoping to study for two, one-year taught Masters Programmes. I hope to read for a Bachelor of Civil Law) and a Master in Public Policy. Once I am done with all my studies, I hope to be called to the Bar as an Advocate and practice in the area of Administrative and Constitutional Law. This is in addition to pursuing my political career,’ said Premhid.
