The Food Security Project spear headed by Project Management honours students recently raised funds to help alleviate hunger during the exam period. Through translating the theory they learnt through their project management course into practice, the crew managed to raise over R3000 in cash and food stuff.

Team leader Sayuri Naidoo said the concept for the fund raising initiative came about after Professor Kantilal Bowan from the School of Management, Information Technology and Governance informed the class about the impact that hunger has on students during the exam period.

‘When we heard about this we wanted to do something about it because we understand how important it is to be well nourished during exam time as it improves concentration.

We then decided to start this project early so that we can raise enough funds to provide enough food for all the students who need this assistance,’ she said.

Bcom Accounting student Menoca Vasanthala who donated R400 to this worthy cause said she was motivated to make this donation because she can relate with the needy students and encouraged fellow students to get involved and sponsor what they can.c

If you would like to make a monetary donation or non-perishable items to the Food Security Crew you make your contribution at the collection box situated at the entrance of the Westville Campus library. For more information on the programme please email: 208502551@stu.ac.za.
