Staff 2003

The School of Psychology has a long history of providing excellence in its research programmes and training of psychology professionals. Its graduates occupy senior positions both within the private and public sectors throughout the country and internationally. The staff of the School of Psychology have diverse areas of research and teaching interests including neuropsychology, culture and mental health, childhood adversity, race and gender issues, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, violence, primary health care and psychotherapy among many others.

Our Objective

The goal is to deliver innovative knowledge production that addresses global problems in local ways, achieved by means of an integrated teaching, research and service programme that is attuned to regional development needs.

Our Mission Statement

The School of Psychology will provide innovative learning opportunities, scholarship and service outputs in the socio-psychological services that contribute to the national and international development agenda by:

Equipping learners with relevant problem-solving, critical thinking and multiple skills to increase their value to society and employability, especially in the social services sector.

Providing preventative, clinical and consultancy services in mental health care.

Developing public/private partnerships in producing knowledge and research outputs in the context of essential national health research (ENHR), in order to contribute to the enhancement and sustainability of the quality of life of society and to contribute to the international reputation of the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
