UKZN PARTNERS ESKOM AT EXHIBITION

Mr Pravesh Moodley, from UKZN’s Vibration and Research Testing Centre (VRTC) joined Eskom at their Academy of Learning exhibition that formed part of the company’s General Business Engineering Programme in Johannesburg.

Mr Moodley showcased the VRTC and High Voltage Direct Current Centre’s (HVDC) facilities on the Westville campus. This was an opportunity to attract students to postgraduate studies at UKZN and to inform them of new technologies and resources. He also met Eskom’s newly-recruited graduate engineers, many of whom emanate from UKZN’s Schools of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.

“It was a networking session for me where I got to meet many plant managers and engineers. There was also an opportunity in the area of turbine vibration and boiler chemistry for UKZN,” said Mr Moodley.

UKZN’s VRTC is a world-class laboratory that conducts research, testing and investigations in the field of conductor mechanical oscillations. The University, in collaboration with Eskom, is interested in extending the services of the VRTC to the industrial and commercial sector. It is currently engaged in an active process to canvas outside organisations on their research and testing needs so that it can offer a more comprehensive and effective service.
